Short service is for 5 years and after completion of 5 years either you can resign or opt for an extension for five years or a permanent commission.

CDS exam in this you must have a graduate degree and age is between 19 to 24

NDA you must be in class 12 or passed out and age must be between 16 1/2 to 24 year

NCC special entry you must have a graduation with 50% marks and NCC C certificate holder with A or B grade

Non-Tec you must be graduate and age must be between 19 to 25 year old can apply.

as you have mentioned that you are a commerce student so you can apply for these entry they all having both science

student and also non science students.

You are not eligible for navy as the basic requirement is PCM in 12th.
But you can enter army by giving the NDA exam conducted by UPSC twice a year, you have to be between 16.5 to 19 years of age.

Nice to see that you are Interested to become a Army officer, And your goal is Very specific from 12th to become army officer in future. If you have completed your 12Th examination from a recognised Board, then you are eligible to apply for NDA Examination.

UPSC Conducts the NDA Examination twice in a year for the Recruitment of

Army, Naval and Air Force Wings of NDA.

The Notification will be Published Twice in a year in the employment newspaper or in the UPSC Website.

For this year NDA Examination Notification was already Published on 31/Dec/2011 and the last date of apply for this examination is 30/Jan/2012.

The examination will be held on 15/April/2012.

>> If you have completed your 12Th examination with Maths and Physics as a compulsory Subjects then you are eligible to apply for NDA Examination of Army wings.

In Written examination there will be 2 papers and both are objective type questions and these 2 subjects question papers will be given in Hindi as well as English, The time duration for each paper 2½ Hours .

You have to cracked both these papers, Only then you will be eligible for Personnel Interview.

The cds exam is stand for combined defence service exam which conducted by union public service commission . In this exam for army candidate are apply for IMA or OTA scheme .

yes a commerce student can anytime apply for Indian Army

after 12th : NDA (age b/w 16-19)
after/during graduation : CDS,UES age(19-23)

pay scale is very good in army mainly because of 6th pay commission's
you will 7000 per month during you training period and the 35000
while the basic pay is only 19000 (for Lt.)
you will get DA ,HRA ,etc. so it will addupto near-about 35K.

As you have said that you are a commerce student thus it limits your scope in the armed forces than the PCM students.
Nonetheless,there are still vacancies for cadets from cadets from commerce stream.
but it is limited mostly only to the indian army .
you can appear for the NDA exam held twice every year and then after qualifying the following SSB and medical,you would be shortlisted for NDA.

Friend, from your query I came to know that you have done 10+2 in commerce stream and want to join Indian Army. At this stage, NDA Examination is most ideal platform in which if you will able to perform well, then you will surely succeeded in getting defence job. Only the condition required is that you should meet with the required age limits and other eligibility conditions. First of all, you must have attained the age of 19 years and must not attained the age of 19 years. In NDA Examination, there is no place for any reservation policy and age relaxtion to any category/community. You must possess Indian citizenship and should be in state of calibacy. You must have 157.5 cm for army wing and 162 cm for airforce & navy wing. You must be in complete physical fit and no any encroachment in physical fitness level is required.
