Friend,I would like to sort out your confusion that both the CDS Examination and AFCAT provide the opportunity to join Indian Airforce even the Flying Branch in Airforce. After completing B.Sc degree you must apply for these above mentioned examination. As you have PCM stream in 10+2 level and you are going for B.Sc degree in Physics & mathematics, then there is no any issue over your educational qualification. For CDS Examination, you must have the age limit of 19-23 years. And for AFCAT, the age limit for Flying Branch is 19-23 years. Note that married are not permtted for this examination, so keep your calibacy until your final selection. NOTE THAT YOU MUST HAVE EXCELLENT EYE & BRAIN COORDINATION FOR THE JOB IN FLYING BRANCH. You must be physically fit. Minimum Height must be 162 cm for flying branch in Airforce.

Actually , you can join in FLYING BRANCH in Airforce through Anyone of these exams (CDS & AFCAT)

But , it is better to join Airforce through AFCAT exam . This is because , the AFCAT exam is only to join in Airforce . Whereas , CDS exam is to join in Defence services.

    Hello Friend,

    ~ Modes of Entry:

There are 3 modes by which a candidate can join the IAF. They are:

    • Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE)
    • National Cadet Corps Special Entry ( Through CO NCC Unit / DG NCC )
    • Flying (Pilot) Short Service Commission (For Men & women) with Term of Engagement of 14 Years with no further extension
~ Selection procedure of the IAF:

The selection of the students is done by 4 steps. They include:
    • Scrutiny of Applications
    • Testing Officer Like Qualities
    • Conducting of Medical Examinations
    • Preparing All India Merit List
The Air Head Quarters will issue instructions to those candidates who pass successfully in all four methods to join the training on the basis of the seats that are available.

    Hello

One can apply for flying branch through both CDSE and AFCAT.

After completing graduation, you are eligible for both.
The difference between CDSE and AFCAT is that through CDSE,you will be given Permanent Commission, which means your service in air force will be of 30 years.
But if your entry is through AFCAT,then you will get Short Service Commission, which means a job period of maximum of 14 years.

Both allows entry in Flying Branch of Air Force.

For more details, visit the website of Air Forced
    www.careerairforce.nic.in

A old notification of CDSE and AFCAT is being uploaded for your reference.
