    Dear friend,,

Yes it is possible ,,in case you are engineering graduate.
An engineering graduate can apply for UES(University entry scheme) to get into indian army.
There are 2 ways to get into indian army by UES
1.)SSC(Short service commission):-In this scheme you need to work for army for 10 years atleast to get retirement.
2.)PSC(Permanent service commission):-In this scheme you need to work in indian army till retirement.

Re: Is it possible to work for Defence without appearing for CDSE exam?

YEs friend there are many direct entries into defence

where you dont have to give the written exam

NCC special Entry (men and women)
you must be between 19-23 years old
you must have a NCC 'c' certificate with minimum of 'b' grading

in this entry there is no written test
you'll be called for SSB directly

there are some other entries also
    UES,
    TGC
    AFCAT

and there is no entry in Defence as an officer without SSB

    Regards
