AFCAT stands for Air force Common Admission test and this examination is conducted by IAF every year for recruiting candidates in Flying branch, technical Branch and Ground duty Branch of Indian Air force. The eligibility criteria are vary from Branch to Branch, but you need to complete your graduation with minimum 60% marks. If you have scored 60% marks in your final result then you can apply for this examination and if you fail to maintain 60% marks in your Graduation then you are not eligible for this examination.

To apply for Technical Branch of Indian Air force, you have to complete your Engineering degree course with Electronics or Mechanical branch and your age should between 18 to 28 years.

The selection is based on written test followed by SSB Interview. There will be 4 sections in this examination and you have to passed individually in each one of the section.

But you have not scored 60% marks in your graduation, then you are not eligible to apply for this examination. You can apply for CDS Examination and make your career in Defence. If you need more details then please visit the official UPSC website.

Re: Am I eligible for AFCAT Technical branch if I have 59% in BE Instrumentation?

    No my friend ,
You have heard wrong . Their are no certain criteria in the technical branch of the AFCAT ( Indian Air force Common Admission test ) examination . Such Criteria of scoring above 60% marks is only for the Flying Branch of the AFCAT Examination and not for other Branches . So You just need to pass your graduation to become eligible for entering in the Technical Branch of Indian Air force Through the AFCAT examination .

For the Technical Branch of the AFCAT examination The Education Qualification is like this -:
If you are applying for the Aeronautical Engineer (Electronics) post or Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) post - You should have a four year's degree qualification in engineering from a recognised university

When you apply for the AFCAT examination at that time your age should be between 18 to 28 years .
You can also be unmarried or married candidate .

So best of luck for your Examination .

    Hey friend,

The AFCAT exam is conducted for candidates to join in 3 branches of Air Force which include such as:
    1. Ground Duty Branch
    2. Flying Branch
    3. Technical Branch
As you have completed B.E Instrumentation engineering you are not eligible for joining in Technical Branch as for joining in this Branch you need to have completed a degree in Aeronautical Engineering as it is important as per the education qualification needed for the branch.

But when regarding the other branches such as Ground Duty Branch and Flying Branch you can join in them as you satisfy the needed eligibility for them as regarding the education qualification.

For joining in Ground Duty Branch you need to be a citizen of India and the age limit needed for the branch is that you need to have 20-27 years. The education qualification needed for joining in Ground Duty Branch is that the candidate must have completed a degree in UG or PG with at least 60% aggregate.

For joining in Flying Branch you need to be a citizen of India and the age limit for this branch is that you need to have 19-23 years.Education qualification would include such as that you need to have completed a degree in B.E/B.Tech with at least 60% aggregate.

If you satisfy all the above criteria for the respected branch, then you can apply for the AFCAT exam

    Dear Friend,

I am sorry to say but having 59% marks in your engineering your are not eligible for any branches of AFCAT. You can apply for CDS(Combined Defence Services) for flying branch as there is no such % criteria in CDS.

    Hope it Helps...
